WAEC’s 73rd Annual Council Meeting Brings West Africa Together
The 73rd WAEC Annual Council Meeting took place in Liberia, bringing together top education officials. President Joseph Nyuma Boakai opened the event, praising WAEC’s efforts in maintaining educational standards. The meeting, held from March 17 to March 21, 2025, celebrated student achievements and addressed critical education policies.
Ghanaian Students Win Big at 73rd WAEC Annual Meeting
A key highlight of the Meeting was the WAEC International Excellence Award. Three outstanding Ghanaian students received top honors. Master David Nii Commey Ankrah won 1st Prize, while Master Henschel Tabi Frempong-Manso and Master Benedict Ofori Debrah secured 2nd and 3rd Prizes.
These students stood out among 2,455,063 candidates from The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. Their achievements demonstrated their dedication and academic excellence.

Additionally, David Nii Commey Ankrah received the Augustus Bandele Oyediran Award for the Best Candidate in West Africa (2024). His hard work and commitment to education earned him this prestigious title.
WAEC Honors Key Contributor at 73rd WAEC Annual Council Meeting
The Annual Meeting also recognized individuals who supported education. Mrs. Hawah Sharon GollKotchi, a Liberian, received the title “Distinguished Friend of Council” for her contributions to WAEC’s mission.
Liberia’s Minister of Education, Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, highlighted the importance of credible and accessible examinations. She emphasized the need for collaboration in strengthening education across the region.
WAEC’s Chairman, Prof. Thomas B. R. Yormah, thanked the Government of Liberia and all delegates for their commitment. The next WAEC Annual Council Meeting will be held in Ghana in March 2026, continuing the focus on academic excellence.
