MUSIC

In a major move to bridge two of the world’s most influential music scenes, Mavin Records, Sacem, and the French Embassy in Nigeria have unveiled AFROCROISER. This international initiative is designed to foster elite-level music composition through a collaborative residency for French and Nigerian songwriters.

The inaugural edition of the program commenced on January 18, 2026. It is scheduled to run until January 25 at the Mavin Records Studios in Lagos. Furthermore, the week-long event is supported by the French Embassy’s “Création Africa” program. Consequently, it serves as a central hub for artistic experimentation and cultural exchange.

Uniting Global Hitmakers

The camp features a prestigious roster of composers responsible for some of the biggest global hits in recent years. Specifically, the initiative aims to blend the distinct sounds of French pop with the globally dominant Nigerian Afrobeats.

The Creative Lineup

Instead of a standard workshop, the program brings together high-profile talent from both regions:

  • Representing France (Sacem): The camp includes renowned composers such as Dany Synthé, Julio Masidi, and Ozhora. This group also features PSK, Renaud Rebillaud, Seysey, Shannon, and Voluptyk. These creators have previously collaborated with international icons like Aya Nakamura, Gims, Booba, and Major Lazer.

  • Representing Nigeria (Mavin): The Nigerian contingent includes top-tier producers like Ozedikus, Andre Vibez, and Ragee. They are joined by Mbryo, Magixx, Bayanni, Kold AF, Elestee, Deeno, and Milar. These are the creative minds behind global anthems such as “Calm Down,” “Rush,” and “Unavailable.”

Strategic Goals: Beyond the Music

AFROCROISER is more than just a creative session. Rather, it is a strategic effort to build a permanent bridge between the Francophone and African music ecosystems.

The works generated during this intensive week may eventually be pitched to major international stars. These include Mavin’s own Rema and Ayra Starr, alongside leading artists from the French music scene.

Executive Insights on the Collaboration

Kizito Ahams, the Senior Publishing and Licensing Manager at Mavin Records, highlighted the importance of “cross-pollination.” He noted that the camp focuses on how value is created and shared fairly across borders. Similarly, Akotchayé Okio of Sacem stated that Lagos was the natural choice for this project. He described the city as the “beating heart of African music.”

Finally, Margaux Demeersseman, the Regional Music Attaché, emphasized the long-term vision. She explained that the connections between France and Nigeria have never been more obvious. Therefore, the ambition is to foster lasting relationships between publishers and creators from both markets.

A Growing International Influence

The launch of AFROCROISER comes at a perfect time. Currently, the Nigerian music scene is playing a central role in redefining global pop music. Simultaneously, French artists are enjoying unprecedented international recognition. As a result, this partnership represents a timely fusion of two powerhouses in the modern music industry
