The British Airways has reportedly prevented 58 passengers from boarding its Abuja-to-London flight earlier today, Friday August, 15,2025.

This decision, according to aviation authorities, was a safety precaution, as a technical fault was detected with one of the aircraft’s doors.

Director of Public Relations and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Michael Achimugu, confirmed the development in a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

Passengers Offered Accommodation and Refund Options

Achimugu explained that the airline arranged hotel accommodations for affected travellers.

While 28 passengers opted to return home, 30 accepted the accommodation offer.

He also assured that arrangements were in place to transport them on a replacement flight scheduled for the following morning.

Additionally, passengers were informed of their eligibility to file for compensation under aviation consumer protection rules.

NCAA Urges Passengers to Seek Assistance at Airports

The NCAA spokesperson reminded travellers that in cases of delays or cancellations, they should locate Consumer Protection Officers at the airport terminal to ensure their rights are respected.

Public Reactions to Aircraft Conditions

Although the incident was attributed to standard safety procedures.

Some travellers raised broader concerns about the quality of aircraft deployed by foreign airlines in Nigeria.

While some netizens urged NCAA to examine the condition of interiors on some international flights to Nigeria.

Others complained of the high cost of these flights
