In the Central African Republic (CAR), United Nations MINUSCA peacekeepers organized a medical outreach event in Bangui to support residents living with disabilities, aligning with the spirit of World Humanitarian Day.
Inclusive Medical Campaign
On September 9, 2025, peacekeepers from Morocco, Rwanda, and Egypt held a medical initiative to ensure access to healthcare for all, particularly those with disabilities.
The event offered eye tests, dental care, general medical checkups, and malaria treatment.
Captain Hajar ElKasraoui, MINUSCA’s Head of Civil-Military Activities, addressed attendees, saying,
“Despite life’s challenges and visible or invisible wounds, you keep fighting and hoping.
To people with disabilities, the displaced, and those hurt by war or life, you are not alone. This day honors your courage and offers our support.”
Addressing Exclusion in CAR
The United Nations highlights that people with disabilities in CAR often face exclusion from healthcare, education, and social opportunities.
This event aimed to bridge that gap. Juvénal Koma Baganito, a participant, expressed gratitude:
“MINUSCA brought us together for vital care like malaria testing. With diseases like malaria so common here, this opportunity is a big help. It’s a step toward better health for us.”
World Humanitarian Day’s Mission
World Humanitarian Day unites global partners to advocate for the survival, well-being, and dignity of crisis-affected communities while ensuring the safety of humanitarian workers.
The MINUSCA event underscored inclusion, offering practical support to a marginalized group in Bangui.
Looking Forward
The medical campaign reflects MINUSCA’s commitment to supporting vulnerable populations in CAR amid ongoing challenges like conflict and displacement. Such initiatives foster hope and promote equal access to essential services.
