CHRISTMAS

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared three upcoming public holidays. Specifically, Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, 2025, are designated for Christmas and Boxing Day. Furthermore, Thursday, January 1, 2026, will be a holiday to celebrate New Year’s Day.

Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, announced this on Monday. She issued the formal statement on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

A Message of Reflection and National Unity

During the announcement, Minister Tunji-Ojo encouraged Nigerians to reflect on the core virtues of the season. He noted that love, peace, humility, and sacrifice are essential for national harmony.

The Minister emphasized that this season offers a unique chance for citizens to strengthen their bonds. Consequently, he urged Nigerians from all ethnic and religious backgrounds to unite. By doing so, they can help build a stronger and more prosperous nation.

“The Christmas season and the New Year present an opportunity for Nigerians to strengthen the bonds of unity,” the Minister stated. “We must show compassion and renew our commitment to nation-building.”

Call for Prayer and Security Awareness

In addition to the festivities, the government highlighted the importance of civic responsibility. Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged all citizens to pray for the country’s peace and security. He believes that public support is vital for the government’s efforts toward national cohesion.

As millions of Nigerians prepare for holiday travel, the Minister shared several critical reminders to ensure safety.

Key safety and conduct guidelines include:

  • Security Awareness: Citizens should remain vigilant and conscious of their surroundings.
  • Law-Abiding Conduct: The public is urged to celebrate moderately and respect all laws.
  • Cooperation: Nigerians should work closely with security agencies to maintain a peaceful environment.

In conclusion, the Minister wished all citizens a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2026. He remains confident that a spirit of unity will guide the country into the new year.
