NiMet Forecasts Thunderstorms and Rain Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thunderstorms and rain across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday, July 21-23, 2025.

This update, released today, outlines varied weather conditions nationwide.

On Monday, expect early morning thunderstorms with rain in Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Kaduna.

While other northern areas will see sunny skies with scattered clouds.

Afternoon or evening thunderstorms with moderate rain are likely in Adamawa, Taraba, Kebbi, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Yobe.

Central and Southern Weather Trends

In the central region, Monday morning will bring cloudy skies with a possibility of light rain in Niger.

By afternoon, thunderstorms with rain are expected in Plateau, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kogi, Benue, and Niger.

The southern region will start with overcast skies, followed by light rain in Imo, Abia, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom during the afternoon or evening.

On Tuesday, the north will enjoy sunny skies with clouds, with morning thunderstorms and moderate rain in Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, and Jigawa.

Afternoon showers in Adamawa, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna.

Midweek Weather Outlook

Central areas like Plateau, Benue, and Nasarawa may see morning thunderstorms with light rain on Tuesday, with moderate rains later in Plateau, Niger, FCT, and Nasarawa.

The south will remain cloudy, with moderate rains forecast for Ondo, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Edo, Rivers, Cross River, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa.

On Wednesday, the north will have sunny skies with clouds, featuring morning thunderstorms in Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Taraba.

Afternoon rains in Yobe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, Borno, and Kebbi.

Central regions, including FCT, Plateau, Niger, and Kwara, may experience moderate rains, while the south anticipates morning showers in Enugu, Cross River.

With heavier rains later in Ebonyi, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

NiMet cautions about strong winds preceding rains in thunderstorm areas, urging residents to secure loose objects and avoid driving in heavy downpours.

Disconnect electrical appliances and steer clear of tall trees to avoid hazards from falling branches.
