Tinubu Heads to South Africa and Angola for Summits

ANGOLA

President Bola Tinubu leaves Abuja on Wednesday for a major diplomatic tour. This trip aims to strengthen Nigeria’s global standing. The itinerary covers two nations: South Africa and Angola.

According to the Presidency, the tour starts in South Africa. There, President Tinubu will join the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit. Afterward, he will head to Angola for the African Union-European Union (AU-EU) summit.

Historic G20 Gathering in Johannesburg

The first leg of the trip takes place at the Johannesburg Expo Centre. The G20 meeting runs from Saturday, November 22, to Sunday, November 23.

This year’s summit is historic. It is the first G20 gathering hosted on African soil.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will host the event under the theme “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability.”

Key Summit Topics: The leaders will focus on critical global challenges, including:

  • Inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

  • Development finance and debt management.

  • Climate action and energy transitions.

  • Food systems and critical minerals.

  • The future of work and artificial intelligence.

Additionally, the African Union will take part as a full member of the G20. They will stand alongside the European Union.

During the summit, the Nigerian team will also hold bilateral meetings. These talks aim to advance the administration’s economic agenda. Furthermore, they will discuss regional peace and security.

AU-EU Summit in Angola

After the G20 concludes, President Tinubu travels to Luanda. He will attend the AU–EU summit from November 24 to 25.

This marks President Tinubu’s first visit to Angola since assuming office. The summit brings together Heads of State, innovators, and civil society leaders. Their goal is to build stronger ties between the two continents.

Discussions will center on infrastructure, the digital economy, and agribusiness. They will also cover manufacturing and the creative sector.

The Delegation

Several senior government officials will accompany the President. The delegation includes:

  • The Minister of Foreign Affairs

  • The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy

  • The Minister of Solid Minerals Development

  • The Minister of Trade and Investment

  • The Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA)

President Tinubu expects to return to Nigeria immediately after the meetings in Luanda end.
