ARISE Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu

Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a vibrant ARISE Television anchor and lawyer, was killed in a robbery in Abuja on September 29, 2025.

The 29-year-old’s death has left the media community in mourning, with tributes highlighting her passion and impact.

ARISE’s Tribute

ARISE TV called Maduagwu “delectable, intelligent, and bold” in a statement on September 30.

She joined the team in September 2024 as a news anchor, producer, and reporter, advocating for out-of-school children and against gender-based violence.

Early Career

Maduagwu first appeared on ARISE as a guest after winning Miss Tourism Nigeria. She represented Nigeria at the 2023 Miss Tourism World in Quanzhou, China, before her full-time role.

Advocacy Work

Her reporting included the September 21 submission for the Reserved Seats for Women Bill at the National Assembly. “She fought for women’s voices,” ARISE noted. Her legacy of advocacy endures.
