A health scare has severely impacted the career of footballer Oscar, a former Chelsea and Brazil midfielder. He is currently hospitalized and in stable condition after experiencing a heart-related complication.

The 34-year-old reportedly felt unwell on Tuesday during routine pre-season fitness examinations. These tests were conducted at his club, São Paulo’s, training facility. Club personnel and doctors immediately provided medical attention on site.

Incident and Immediate Care

Oscar had returned to the Brazilian side São Paulo, his original club, in December 2024. He signed a contract extending to 2027.

The club issued a statement detailing the incident: “Oscar presented an incident with cardiological changes.” Club professionals and a medical team from a local hospital promptly attended to him.

The player was subsequently moved to a hospital. He remains in stable condition and under observation. Doctors plan further tests to determine a clear diagnosis.

Reports from Brazilian outlets indicate the seriousness of the event. Oscar was using a stationary exercise bike when he collapsed. He reportedly remained unconscious for approximately two minutes.

Weighing a Difficult Decision

Sources suggest the health scare has prompted Oscar to seriously consider retirement from the sport.

The midfielder had returned to São Paulo after spending eight years playing in China. His current manager at São Paulo is former Chelsea and Argentina striker, Hernan Crespo.

The health incident now casts doubt on the future of his three-year contract. If the complications persist, the footballer may choose to end his career prematurely to prioritize his health and family’s well-being.
