Super Falcons

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has promised ₦50 million to Nigeria’s women’s national team, the Super Falcons. This money will help them prepare for a key home game in the WAFCON 2026 qualifiers.

Governor Welcomes the Team

On Monday, Abiodun met the Super Falcons at his office in Abeokuta, the state capital. He praised their hard work and success. He said their visit shows Ogun State is doing great things in sports.

Celebrating Their Success

Abiodun spoke about the team’s 10th WAFCON title won in Morocco. He called them role models for young girls.

“They show leadership, teamwork, and discipline,” he said. “Their wins inspire millions to dream big.”

Stadium Hosts Big Match

The second-leg match will take place at MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

This is the first time in years the Super Falcons are playing there. Abiodun said it proves the state’s investment in sports is working.

Big Plans for the Stadium

The governor has exciting plans. He wants to turn the stadium area into a world-class sports hub. This includes:

  • A five-star hotel
  • A cinema
  • A shopping complex

These upgrades will make Abeokuta a top spot for sports and tourism.

Full Support from Ogun State

Abiodun promised ongoing help for the team. “We stand with the Super Falcons,” he said. “Their success motivates the next generation of athletes.”

Match Preview

The Super Falcons play Benin Republic’s Amazons on Tuesday. Nigeria leads 2–0 from the first leg in Cotonou. Goals came from Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo.

Coach Speaks Out

Head coach Justin Madugu said the team will not relax. “We respect our opponent. We will play hard to qualify for WAFCON 2026 in Morocco,” he added.

Why This Matters

The Super Falcons have won WAFCON 10 times. They are Africa’s most successful women’s team. This support from Ogun State boosts their confidence.

What’s Next?

A win on Tuesday sends Nigeria to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco (March 17 – April 3). Fans are excited to see the team in action.
