On Thursday evening, Russia’s top diplomat met with Morocco’s foreign minister in Moscow for key discussions. The meeting focused on boosting cooperation between the two nations.
Signing a New Agreement
The two leaders, representing their countries, signed a pact to form a joint committee. This step aims to enhance the strategic alliance between Russia and Morocco.
A statement from the Russian side highlighted the commitment to deeper collaboration.
Talks on Regional Conflicts
The conversation also turned to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Both officials expressed approval of the progress in the initial stage of a truce between opposing sides. The Russian minister commended Morocco’s efforts in pushing for peace in the region.
He specifically praised the leadership of Morocco’s king in guiding a key Islamic group focused on Jerusalem’s issues.
Morocco’s minister echoed this sentiment, noting a shared perspective on Middle Eastern events. He acknowledged recent efforts by a prominent leader to secure the ceasefire.
“We hope all involved honor the agreement,” he said. “This could lead to a fair and lasting resolution for the region.”
Addressing Territorial Disputes
The diplomats also touched on the disagreement over Western Sahara. Earlier this week, the Russian minister shared that his country supports any solution agreeable to all parties. This includes backing Morocco’s proposal for regional self-governance.
As the meeting concluded, both sides reaffirmed their intent to work closely on global and regional matters. The new committee marks a fresh chapter in their diplomatic relations.
