Adel Amarouche

Rwanda has officially announced Adel Amarouche as their new head coach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria’s Super Eagles later this month. The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) confirmed the appointment in a statement on Sunday.

Amarouche Takes Charge of Amavubi

The 56-year-old Algerian coach replaces German Thorsten Spittler, whose contract expired late last year. Amarouche brings vast experience, having previously managed several African nations, including:

  • Kenya
  • Tanzania
  • Libya
  • Botswana
  • Equatorial Guinea

He will be assisted by Eric Nshimiyimana and Carolin Braun as Rwanda looks to maintain their impressive run in Group C.

Rwanda’s Position in Group C

Rwanda currently sits top of Group C in the World Cup qualifiers with seven points from four matches—tied with South Africa and Benin Republic. Meanwhile, Nigeria is struggling in fifth place with just three points, ahead of bottom-placed Zimbabwe.

The Amavubi will host the Super Eagles in Kigali on March 21, aiming to consolidate their lead in the group.

Super Eagles Boosted as William Ekong Returns from Injury

In a major boost for Nigeria, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has returned from injury, playing the full match for his Saudi Arabian club, Al Kholood, in their 2-1 victory over Al Khaleej.

The 2023 AFCON MVP had been sidelined for two league games due to a minor injury. His return is timely as Nigeria faces must-win World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe later this month.

FA Cup: Calvin Bassey Scores as Fulham Eliminates Manchester United

Meanwhile, Nigerian international Calvin Bassey was on target as Fulham knocked out Manchester United in the FA Cup.

Bassey scored in first-half stoppage time, heading in a corner to give Fulham the lead. United equalized through Bruno Fernandes, but Fulham triumphed 4-3 in a penalty shootout, with goalkeeper Bernd Leno making two crucial saves.

Fellow Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi also featured in the match as Fulham advanced to the FA Cup quarter-finals.
