Tafa Sego escapes assassination attempt.

The Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle Adio, popularly known as Tafa Sego, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Saturday, April 5, 2025, in Surulere, Lagos.

According to sources, six armed men stormed his residence on Gbadamosi Close around 11pm, with the clear intent to assassinate the influential NURTW leader.

Fortunately, Tafa Sego was not at home at the time of the invasion, as he had stepped out earlier for an event with some associates.

The gunmen met only the security guard at the premises, whom they tied up before ransacking the house in search of their target.

The violent intrusion has triggered tension in the neighbourhood, with residents expressing growing fears of insecurity and the possibility of a repeat attack.

Following the incident, police officers from Area C Command arrived at the scene to assess the damages and launch an investigation.

The security guard was interrogated and reportedly provided crucial leads that may help identify the attackers.

A close associate of Tafa Sego confirmed that the union chairman is deeply concerned about the attack, especially as it comes during a period when he is introducing new reform policies aimed at improving the welfare of NURTW members across Lagos State.

Tafa Sego has vowed to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies to ensure that the perpetrators of the assassination attempt are brought to justice.
