As Muslims across Nigeria prepare for the Eid el-Kabir celebration, the Lagos and Oyo State governments have rolled out coordinated security and traffic management measures to ensure a safe, peaceful, and well-organized festive period.
Authorities in both states are taking proactive steps to manage large gatherings, prevent crime, and maintain smooth vehicular movement throughout the holiday.
Key officials have assured the public that personnel and resources are fully mobilized to safeguard lives and property during the celebrations.
Lagos Launches Statewide Security Operation
In Lagos, Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, announced a large-scale deployment of security personnel across the state.
The police command will be working in collaboration with the military, paramilitary agencies, and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to maintain law and order.
CP Jimoh directed officers from critical units including the Rapid Response Squad, EKO Strike Force, Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Special Protection Unit, Anti-Bomb Squad, and the Intelligence Department to secure key public areas.
These include Eid prayer grounds, major mosques, amusement parks, recreational centers, and transportation hubs where heavy foot traffic is expected.
He stressed that public order and safety remain the top priorities of the command during the holiday period.
“The maintenance of public order is our utmost priority. We are committed to ensuring that residents celebrate in a peaceful and safe environment,” said CP Jimoh.
To support these efforts, the police have also mobilized armored personnel carriers and enhanced vehicular patrols in high-risk zones.

The deployment includes operational logistics across prayer grounds, highways, and densely populated areas.
Chairman of OYRTMA, Major Adekoya Adesagba (retd.), urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to avoid accidents and congestion.
“Most road crashes and traffic violations stem from impatience and carelessness. We’re pleading with drivers to remain calm and law-abiding, especially around prayer venues,” Adesagba said.
He highlighted common offenses such as wrong-way driving, speeding, and overloading, noting that such behavior could cause preventable tragedies.
The chairman also commended Governor Seyi Makinde for providing the resources necessary to enhance road management and emergency response.
OYRTMA’s enforcement teams will be stationed at key routes across the state to assist motorists, prevent traffic gridlock, and respond to emergencies in real time.
Joint Appeal for Public Cooperation
Both CP Jimoh and Major Adesagba have called on residents to play their part by cooperating with security and traffic personnel.
They stressed that a peaceful and orderly Eid celebration requires collective responsibility.

CP Jimoh emphasized that any individuals or groups found disrupting public peace would face the full weight of the law.
