Kylian Mbappé Accuses PSG of Moral Harassment

June 27, 2025

The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed that Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé has filed a legal complaint against his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), on Thursday, June 26, 2025

He accused them of moral harassment and claiming 55 million euros ($61 million) in unpaid wages.

The dispute stems from Mbappé’s treatment by PSG during the 2023-24 season, when he was sidelined after refusing to extend his contract.

Allegations of ‘Lofting’ and Harassment

Mbappé’s legal filing denounces the practice of “lofting,” a term used in France to describe isolating a player from the main squad for sporting, administrative, or disciplinary reasons.

After informing PSG in June 2023 that he would not exercise an optional contract extension, Mbappé was excluded from a preseason tour to Japan and South Korea and forced to train with fringe players.

PSG also omitted him from the opening Ligue 1 match of the 2023-24 season, a move his legal team claims constitutes harassment.

“The way he was treated was unacceptable,” Mbappé’s legal team stated in April 2025, announcing their intent to pursue action.

Contract Tensions and Financial Dispute

Mbappé, who joined Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer of 2024 after scoring a club-record 256 goals in seven years at PSG, alleges the club owes him 55 million euros in unpaid wages and bonuses.

The tensions trace back to 2022, when Mbappé signed a lucrative contract extension with PSG, celebrated publicly with a jersey displaying 2025.

However, he later discovered the contract ran only until 2024, with a player-option year he declined to activate.

This decision led to a standoff, with PSG threatening to sell him to avoid losing him for free.

A proposed 300-million-euro transfer to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal was rejected by Mbappé.

Strained Relations with PSG

PSG felt betrayed by Mbappé’s refusal to extend, especially after offering him the most lucrative contract in club history.

The club believed promises to sign key players were unmet, contributing to Mbappé’s frustration.

Fans expressed their discontent by booing him during his final home game at Parc des Princes in 2024.

Despite PSG’s Champions League victory without Mbappé in 2025, the ongoing dispute highlights deep-seated tensions between the France captain and his former club.

Legal and Financial Implications

The Paris prosecutor’s office is reviewing Mbappé’s claims, which could set a precedent for how clubs handle player contracts and treatment disputes.

As Mbappé thrives at Real Madrid, his legal battle with PSG underscores the complexities of high-stakes football transfers and the importance of clear contractual agreements.
