State Funeral: Tinubu in Daura to Honour Buhari

President Bola Tinubu touched down at Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport in Katsina this afternoon, Tuesday, July 15, 2025, to lead the state burial ceremonies for former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The late leader’s remains, transported from London earlier today on a Nigerian Air Force aircraft, are headed to Daura, Katsina State, for the final rites.

Tinubu was greeted by a notable assembly including Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, various Governors, Ministers, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Speaker of the House Tajudeen Abbas, National Assembly members, and other dignitaries.

The welcoming party also featured ex-ministers, former governors, current Senators, Aliko Dangote of the Dangote Group, former Minister Lai Mohammed, All Progressives Congress National Working Committee members, and security forces.

Burial Arrangements

Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at age 82 after a prolonged illness, will be received by Tinubu in Katsina.

The body which arrived around noon, followed by a brief military tribute at the airport.

The procession will then move to Daura for the Jana’iza prayer and burial at Buhari’s residence.

An Inter-Ministerial Committee, chaired by Secretary to the Government George Akume, has been formed to coordinate with the Katsina State Government and Buhari’s family for a respectful ceremony.

Additionally, 25 Federal Executive Council members are assigned to participate in the rites and remain for the Third-Day prayers on Wednesday.

National Mourning

As part of a seven-day national mourning period, Tinubu has mandated flags to be flown at half-mast and condolence registers to be established at all Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

The Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, and Nigerian embassies globally.

The outpouring of condolences from world leaders underscores Buhari’s international influence.

The event honors his legacy as a former military head of state and civilian president, with meticulous planning ensuring a dignified farewell.
