President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made a bold move yet again.

Tinubu appointed Muhammad Babangida, son of former military leader Ibrahim Babangida, as Chairman of the revamped Bank of Agriculture.

The news was made known yesterday, Friday, July 18, 2025, via a statement from Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

At 53, Babangida brings a solid educational background, with a Business Administration degree and a Master’s in Public Relations and Business Communication from the European University in Switzerland. He also attended a Corporate Governance program at Harvard Business School in 2002.

More Appointments Across Agencies

The statement also introduced eight other leaders for federal roles: – Lydia Kalat Musa (Kaduna) to head the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority.

  •  Jamilu Wada Aliyu (Kano) for the National Educational Research and Development Council.
  • Yahuza Ado Inuwa (Kano) for the Standard Organisation of Nigeria.
  • Sanusi Musa (SAN) (Kano) for the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution.
  • Prof. Al-Mustapha Alhaji Aliyu (Sokoto) as Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa.
  • Sanusi Garba Rikiji (Zamfara) for the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations.
  • Mrs. Tomi Somefun (Oyo) as Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission.
  • Dr. Abdulmumini Mohammed Aminu-Zaria (Kaduna) for the Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission.

What It Means

This reshuffle shows Tinubu’s focus on refreshing key sectors.

Babangida’s appointment stands out due to his family name, and while his qualifications are promising, some may wonder about his influence.

The success of these new leaders will hinge on tackling Nigeria’s economic and agricultural issues ahead.
