Super Falcons Celebrated for 10th WAFCON Victory

On July 28, 2025, Nigeria’s Super Falcons returned to a hero’s welcome in Abuja after securing their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses.

They were led by captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who proudly raised the WAFCON trophy upon arrival.

The team arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to cheers from fans and dignitaries

Including Governors Uba Sani (Kaduna), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), and Hope Uzodimma (Imo), alongside federal ministers.

Victory Parade Celebrates Historic Win

A vibrant victory parade wound through Abuja’s major routes—Airport Road, Berger Junction, Maitama, and Wuse Market.

This gave  fans a chance to celebrate the Super Falcons’ dominance in African women’s football.

The parade highlighted the team’s historic achievement, solidifying their legacy as Nigeria’s most successful women’s football team.

Presidential Recognition and Generous Rewards

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hosted the team at the Presidential Villa to honor their remarkable success.

He awarded the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) to all 24 players and 11 technical crew members.

Each player received $100,000 and a three-bedroom apartment in Abuja’s Renewed Hope Estate, while technical crew members were awarded $50,000 each.

The Nigerian Governors Forum added N10 million per team member, recognizing their role in boosting national pride.

Legacy of the Super Falcons

The Super Falcons’ 10th WAFCON title reinforces their status as African football giants.

Their victory over Morocco in the 2024 final showcased their skill and resilience, inspiring a new generation of athletes across Nigeria and beyond.
