Tottenham Hotspur have officially signed Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £51.8 million, giving new manager Thomas Frank a major boost.

The 22-year-old Netherlands international joins Spurs on a long-term contract, subject to international clearance and a work permit.

Spurs Finally Secure Midfield Target

Tottenham had been searching for an attacking midfielder all summer.

The club failed in attempts to sign Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and also lost out on Eberechi Eze, who chose Arsenal instead.

That made Simons’ arrival even more crucial. Spurs want to build momentum after winning their opening two Premier League matches, alongside Arsenal and Liverpool.

Transfer Fee and Contract Details

While Tottenham did not disclose the fee, British media reported that the deal is worth an initial £51.8 million ($69.9m) plus add-ons.

Speaking to the club’s website, Simons said:

“I’m really happy and can’t wait to get going. I’ve been dreaming of this for a long time. It’s a great club and when I met the head coach (Frank) I knew straight away this was the right place for me.”

He also promised to bring flair, discipline, and hard work to the team, adding that his main goal is to win for both the club and the fans.

Thomas Frank Praises Simons

Manager Thomas Frank welcomed the signing, calling Simons a creative playmaker who can unlock defenses.

“Xavi has proven his ability to score and assist from both the number 10 role and the left wing. He will fit perfectly into a team that is already working hard together,” Frank said.

Injuries Make Signing Vital

Tottenham’s midfield options have been weakened by injuries.

James Maddison suffered a serious knee injury in pre-season and will miss most of the campaign. Dejan Kulusevski, who has filled in centrally, is also sidelined with a knee problem.

Simons’ arrival gives Spurs the creative spark they desperately need.

Xavi Simons’ Career Path

Simons is a graduate of Barcelona’s La Masia academy, which produced legends like Lionel Messi.

He joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 and later impressed on loan at PSV Eindhoven, scoring 22 goals in the 2022/23 season.

At RB Leipzig, he continued his rise with 22 goals in 78 matches before sealing his Premier League move to Tottenham.

Tottenham Fans to Welcome Simons

Simons will be presented to Spurs fans before Saturday’s home clash against Bournemouth.

He will wear the iconic number seven shirt, recently vacated by former captain Son Heung-min.
