OLUBADAN, Tinubu

On September 26, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu departed Abuja at around 12:45 p.m. to attend the coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland in Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital.

Governor’s Role

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde presented the staff and instrument of office to Oba Ladoja at Mapo Hall, marking the formal crowning.

The ceremony, held on September 26, drew dignitaries from across Nigeria, including President Tinubu.

Historic Event

Ladoja, a former Oyo State governor, became the Olubadan-designate after the passing of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin on July 7, 2025.

His coronation at Mapo Hall celebrates Ibadan’s rich cultural traditions.

Notable Attendees

The event saw governors like Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), alongside Minister of Power Bayo Adelabu.

Traditional rulers included the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Olaoye, and Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal.

Former governors Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano) also attended.

Political and Local Presence

Oyo’s Deputy Governor Adebayo Lawal, Senators Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli and Yunus Akintunde, and House members Akin Alabi and Olamiju Alao-Akala joined the ceremony.

The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, led by Barrister Sulaimon Ajewole, represented local pride.

Community Celebration

The Olubadan’s wives, family, and well-wishers filled Mapo Hall, showcasing Ibadan’s unity. Social media buzzed with images of the vibrant event, reflecting widespread joy.

Cultural Significance

Tinubu’s first Ibadan visit since his May 29, 2023 inauguration, underscores the event’s national importance.

His last trip was during his February 2023 campaign. The coronation strengthens Ibadan’s cultural heritage.

Looking Forward

Oba Ladoja’s reign begins with high expectations, blending his governance experience with traditional leadership.

The event, backed by Tinubu and Makinde, signals a unified commitment to Oyo’s cultural legacy.
