Economic Tinubu

On September 26, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu attended the coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland at Mapo Hall, Ibadan.

He used the occasion to address Nigerians’ economic struggles since his May 29, 2023, inauguration.

Economic Hope

Tinubu called the hardships a “painful but necessary surgery.” He assured the crowd,

“The economy is improving, and a bright future awaits.”

He thanked Nigerians for their patience and resilience amid reforms aimed at long-term growth.

Coronation Ceremony

Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde presented the staff of office to Oba Ladoja, marking a historic moment. Ladoja succeeded Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed on July 7, 2025.

He received the Akoko leaf at Labosinde Compound and the white crown at Ose Meji Temple earlier.

Dignitaries Present

The event drew prominent figures, including governors from Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti, and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III.

Other monarchs, like the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, and Olugbo of Ugbo, Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan, attended. Former governors, senators, and federal officials also joined.

Cultural Milestone

Tinubu, reflecting on his 2023 campaign visit to Mapo Hall, celebrated Ibadan’s heritage. The coronation, nearly three months after Olakulehin’s death, united leaders and locals in honoring tradition.

Looking Forward

Tinubu’s speech tied economic hope to cultural pride, urging unity. Oba Ladoja’s reign begins with expectations of leadership, backed by Nigeria’s top figures in 2025.
