Tinubu Independence

On October 1, 2025, President Bola Tinubu delivered a national broadcast to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day, emphasizing the nation’s strides in healthcare, education, and infrastructure despite challenges.

Reflecting on Progress

Tinubu acknowledged Nigeria’s journey through economic, social, and political trials since 1960.

“We’ve faced tough times, but our resilience has driven growth in every sector,” he said, citing advancements in manufacturing, telecoms, and defense.

Education Growth

He highlighted education’s expansion: from 120 secondary schools with 130,000 students in 1960 to over 23,000 today.

Higher education grew from two institutions (University of Ibadan and Yaba College) to 274 universities, 183 polytechnics, and 236 colleges by 2024.

Healthcare and Infrastructure

Tinubu noted improved access to healthcare compared to 1960, alongside progress in financial services, aviation, and IT.

“Nigerians today enjoy better opportunities than ever before,” he stated.

Overcoming Challenges

The president recalled Nigeria’s civil war, military rule, and political crises.

“We’ve endured storms with courage and determination,” he said, stressing the nation’s unity despite divisive forces.

Building a Stronger Nation

Tinubu emphasized efforts to create a society where every Nigerian finds purpose.

“We’re working toward a united nation where all can thrive,” he added.

Why It Matters

The speech underscores Nigeria’s resilience and growth, reinforcing national pride while acknowledging ongoing challenges in achieving the founders’ vision.

Looking Ahead

As Nigeria moves into 2025, Tinubu’s address sets a tone of optimism, urging continued efforts to strengthen unity and development.
