Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede passionately defended her colleague Regina after a viral video sparked allegations of domestic violence. In a fiery social media post on Monday, October 20, 2025, Jegede called out online critics and industry peers for mocking Regina instead of supporting her.

She urged people to take the actress’s distress seriously, questioning why her cries for help were met with judgment rather than compassion.

“Why are you mocking a young woman who’s asking for help?” Jegede asked. “Would you react differently if she were married to a poorer or younger man? Violence is violence, no matter who it involves.” She stressed that wealth, age, or marital status doesn’t justify abuse, pushing for empathy over gossip.

Highlighting Double Standards

Jegede pointed to a recent case where a woman was attacked by her partner shortly after giving birth, noting that the abuser’s lack of wealth didn’t lessen the outrage.

“If Regina were married to someone less rich, would you pity her more?” she challenged. “You just love bad news.” She criticized the public’s tendency to sensationalize pain, especially when it involves high-profile figures like Regina.

She also called out senior Nollywood colleagues who ridiculed Regina, some of whom played maternal roles alongside her in past films.

“Shame on you for laughing at her struggles,” Jegede said. “We all have our battles, so why judge hers?” Her words highlighted the need for solidarity in the industry, where personal challenges often face public scrutiny.

No Excuse for Violence

As a single mother, Jegede dismissed potential backlash, emphasizing that violence whether by men or women must be condemned.

“I don’t care what people say about me,” she declared. “If there’s violence, I’ll tell you to leave, man or woman. Your mental health and safety come first.” She urged victims to exit abusive situations, stressing, “It’s better to live and share your story than stay and suffer.”

Jegede rejected excuses for abuse based on a perpetrator’s background. “Young or old, rich or poor, single or married none of that makes violence okay,” she said. Her call for accountability extended to Regina’s peers, whom she challenged to reflect on their own struggles before judging others.

A Call for Empathy

The controversy follows recent public attention on Regina, including her birthday celebrations and a university project dedication.

She questioned why critics focus on Regina’s high-profile marriage rather than her well-being, urging a shift toward understanding.

Yvonne Jegede stance resonates in Nigeria’s entertainment scene, where stars face intense scrutiny. By speaking out, she aims to redirect the narrative from gossip to support, encouraging fans and colleagues to prioritize empathy. “We’re all connected,” she said. “Instead of tearing someone down, lift them up.”

Moving Forward

Jegede’s bold words spark a broader conversation about addressing abuse with seriousness, not judgment.

As Regina navigates this public storm, Jegede’s call for compassion challenges society to rethink how it responds to personal struggles.

Her message pushes for a culture of support, urging victims to seek safety and allies to stand firm against violence, no matter the circumstances.
