Schneider-Electric

Schneider Electric, a leader in energy management and automation, has scored a major win with its AirSeT medium-voltage switchgear. On October 21, 2025, the World Economic Forum’s Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders named it a Champion in Sustainable Design.

This recognition celebrates AirSeT’s breakthrough in slashing greenhouse gas emissions by ditching sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) a gas 24,300 times more potent than CO2 for pure air and vacuum tech.

The award underscores AirSeT’s role in tackling Scope 3 emissions in electrical grids. Since launching, it has prevented 1.7 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent by June 2025, as verified by independent auditors through Schneider’s Sustainability Impact initiative. It’s a step forward in building eco-friendly power systems that last.

Why AirSeT Stands Out

AirSeT isn’t just green it’s smart and practical. It fits existing setups without hassle, using familiar designs for easy upgrades. Features like AI-powered maintenance predict issues, while circular elements make it recyclable: removable breakers extend life, and retrofit options keep it future-proof.

Pim Valdre, WEF’s Head of Climate & Nature Economy, praised it: “Design choices set the stage for downstream impact. Sustainable innovations like AirSeT cut costs, boost safety, meet rules, and trim emissions over time.” It’s the kind of tech that turns environmental goals into real wins.

Schneider’s Eco Push

Schneider Electric has long championed green innovation. AirSeT builds on their commitment to zero-emission electrical infrastructure.

By swapping SF6 for air, it slashes global warming risks without sacrificing performance perfect for utilities and industries aiming for net-zero.

The switchgear’s vacuum interrupters and air insulation deliver reliable switching, matching SF6’s power in a cleaner package. This makes it ideal for substations, renewables, and urban grids where space and safety matter.

Broader Impact

The WEF award spotlights AirSeT’s potential to reshape energy. With SF6 banned in some regions, alternatives like this are crucial. It supports the Paris Agreement by curbing potent gases, helping companies meet ESG targets.

Schneider reports growing adoption, with AirSeT now in over 20 countries. Its modularity allows seamless integration, cutting downtime and costs. For businesses, it’s a win-win: sustainable and efficient.

Tech Meets Tomorrow

AirSeT’s AI features go beyond basics condition monitoring spots faults early, reducing outages. Circular design means parts can be reused, easing e-waste.

This holistic approach aligns with global sustainability drives, from EU regulations to corporate net-zero pledges.

The award validates Schneider’s vision: innovation that protects the planet while powering progress. As climate goals tighten, tools like AirSeT will be essential for a greener grid.

Schneider’s Vision Unfolds

AirSeT is more than a product it’s a blueprint for low-emission infrastructure. Schneider plans expansions, including digital twins for virtual testing. Partnerships with utilities will accelerate rollout, targeting urban and renewable projects.

The WEF nod boosts Schneider’s profile, attracting investors focused on ESG. It’s a reminder that sustainable tech isn’t just ethical it’s profitable.

As AirSeT gains traction, it could spark a wave of SF6-free solutions, easing the transition to clean energy.

A Greener Tomorrow

AirSeT’s success at WEF signals hope for a sustainable electrical future. By erasing SF6’s shadow, it paves the way for resilient, eco-friendly networks.

Schneider’s innovation isn’t just winning awards it’s wiring the world for a cooler planet.
