Reports emerging from the Italian media suggest that star striker Victor Osimhen is actively urging his club, Galatasaray, to acquire his Nigerian international teammate, Ademola Lookman, from Atalanta.
The Turkish football powerhouse is aiming to strengthen its forward line. This move is particularly important as there is speculation that winger Barış Alper Yılmaz may depart in the January transfer window.
Osimhen’s Recruitment Efforts
Osimhen, currently the reigning African Player of the Year, is reportedly playing a pivotal role in promoting this potential transfer.
According to Italian press accounts, he has reached out to his compatriot, Lookman, directly. Osimhen’s message to his friend was simple: “Come to Galatasaray and be happy here!”
Lookman’s Situation at Atalanta
Lookman’s status at Atalanta has been complicated this season. He is reportedly struggling for consistent playing time following a dispute with the club’s leadership.
This fallout reportedly stems from a failed summer transfer to Inter Milan. Consequently, the dynamic forward is said to be willing to join the Turkish giants if the two clubs can finalize an agreement.
The difficulties began when Lookman went on strike during the summer, which led to him being briefly isolated by the club. He was later reintegrated into the squad:
- He made a four-minute substitute appearance in a 3-0 victory against Torino in September.
- He earned his first start days later in a Champions League match against Club Brugge.
Goal Drought Ends in Serie A Match
The 28-year-old forward recently ended his personal goal drought for the 2025/26 season. He scored during Atalanta’s match-day nine game against AC Milan on Tuesday night.
Lookman scored in the 35th minute to level the score at 1-1. The visitors had taken an early lead in the fourth minute. Lookman’s goal was set up by Mario Pasalic.
The Nigerian then unleashed a magnificent shot that found the top of the net. This marked the forward’s seventh appearance of the season across all competitions for Atalanta.
The previous season, Lookman was highly productive. He netted 15 goals and provided five assists in the Serie A. Furthermore, he contributed five goals and two assists during the Champions League campaign.
