The French national team camp experienced a sudden change on Friday. Star forward Kylian Mbappé has withdrawn from the squad and returned to Madrid. Team officials confirmed the move. They cited persistent inflammation in his right ankle that requires immediate medical care.

The abrupt departure ends his international break early. He was instrumental in France’s recent success, scoring a brace (two goals) in the decisive 4–0 victory against Ukraine. That win secured France’s spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Severity and Club Concerns

The exact severity of the inflammation has not yet been publicly disclosed. It remains uncertain whether the recurring issue will affect Mbappé’s availability for Real Madrid’s upcoming fixtures. The club’s medical team will now closely monitor his progress and conduct further tests. Specialized evaluation in Madrid aims to prevent the issue from escalating ahead of a busy club schedule.

France will proceed with the rest of their training camp without the 26-year-old star. Mbappé will miss France’s final World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan on Sunday. His absence does not affect the standings, as France has already clinched qualification.

In related news, fellow Real Madrid player Eduardo Camavinga was also released from the French squad. He returned to Madrid due to a hamstring strain.

The decision to pull Mbappé was made jointly by the French Football Federation and the Real Madrid medical staff. This was done to protect their superstar player. Real Madrid’s next match is scheduled for November 23 against Elche in La Liga.
