OPAY

OPay has officially denied viral rumors regarding its operations. The leading Nigerian fintech company rebutted claims that the platform had shut down.

Allegations circulated on social media suggesting that customer funds were wiped out. However, the digital payment giant addressed these reports on Friday.

In an official statement, OPay categorized the claims as “false, malicious, and misleading.” Furthermore, the company assured millions of users that their deposits remain secure and accessible.

“False, Misleading, and Fabricated”

The rumors gained traction following service disruptions earlier in the week. OPay addressed these concerns directly.

“Our attention has been drawn to false… rumours,” the company stated. “These claims are entirely false, misleading and fabricated.”

The company emphasized its financial stability. It noted that it continues to operate normally despite the speculation.

Technical Glitch Sparked Panic

The wave of misinformation appears to stem from a technical issue. On Tuesday, users experienced a glitch on the OPay mobile app.

Many customers reported temporary difficulties accessing their accounts. However, this disruption lasted for only several minutes before engineers resolved it.

Regulatory Assurance

To bolster consumer confidence, the firm reiterated its regulatory standing. OPay highlighted its compliance with federal banking regulations.

“As a licensed institution regulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)… OPay maintains strict adherence to regulatory standards,” the statement read.

Additionally, the company reminded users that deposits are insured. The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) protects customer funds.

Threat of Legal Action

OPay did not stop at a simple denial. The company issued a stern warning to those spreading the unverified claims.

It vowed to pursue legal recourse against individuals deliberately spreading disinformation.

“OPay will pursue appropriate legal action against perpetrators spreading these false rumours,” the company warned.
