Nigeria Presidential Jet Withdrawn From Sale as U.S. Firm Ends Listing

Nigeria presidential jet

A United States-based brokerage has officially removed the Nigeria presidential jet from its sales inventory. This sudden delisting raises fresh questions regarding the administration’s commitment to its previously announced fleet rationalization strategy.

JetHQ, the marketing firm previously tasked with offloading the Boeing 737-700, confirmed the development on Thursday.

Silence from the Brokers

Laurie Barringer, Manager of Market Research at JetHQ, verified that the asset is no longer publicly offered.

When pressed for details, the firm declined to explain the removal. Instead, they deflected responsibility back to the client.

“We no longer have the listing on the Boeing. You will need to reach out to the Nigerian Government for information as to what has become of the aircraft,” Barringer stated in an email.

Government Remains Mute

Consequently, the status of the aircraft remains in limbo.

Ismail Garba, media aide to the National Security Adviser, had previously promised to address the situation. However, days have passed without any official clarification from the presidency.

History of the Nigeria presidential jet sale

This withdrawal contradicts the government’s fiscal narrative.

In July 2025, the Tinubu administration announced the sale as a critical cost-cutting measure. The move was designed to reduce the financial burden of the Presidential Air Fleet amid intense public scrutiny of government spending.

Yet, the sale struggled to gain traction.

Market Struggles

By October 2025, nearly four months after the initial listing, the aircraft remained unsold. At that time, JetHQ personnel confirmed the jet was still available, though they treated specific transaction details as “proprietary information.”

Asset Value and Specs

The aircraft in question is a significant piece of state property.

Records indicate the jet underwent partial refurbishment at a facility in Basel just last year. Upgrades included fresh cabin carpeting, first-class seat refurbishment, and major C1–C2 safety inspections.

Key Financial Facts:

  • Original Purchase: Bought in 2005 for $43 million under President Olusegun Obasanjo.
  • Current Valuation: Estimated at approximately $56 million.
  • Model: Boeing 737-700 Business Jet (BBJ).

Whether the government has secured a private buyer or simply decided to keep the jet remains unknown.
