Filmmaker Rob Reiner Found Dead in Home

The son of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner has been arrested on homicide charges.

This follows the discovery of the director and his wife dead in their Los Angeles home.

A police official confirmed the arrest on Monday. The victims are the director of beloved films such as “When Harry Met Sally…” and his wife, Michele.

Nick Reiner is currently being held in a Los Angeles County jail. Jail records show he is held on a $4 million bond. An official with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated he faces homicide charges.

Tragedy in Brentwood

Police discovered two bodies at the Reiners’ residence on Sunday. They arrived at the Brentwood home at 3:40 p.m. Pacific Time.

Initially, police withheld identification. However, other officials later confirmed the victims were Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife Michele, 68.

Local media reports suggest someone stabbed the couple to death.

A City Mourns

Tributes have begun to pour in for Reiner. He was known for his cinematic contributions and his active support of liberal causes.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued a statement expressing the city’s grief.

“This is a devastating loss for our city and our country. Rob Reiner’s contributions reverberate throughout American culture and society,” Bass said.

She highlighted his work in fighting for social and economic justice.

From ‘Meathead’ to Director

Reiner first gained national fame as an actor. He starred in the 1970s television hit “All in the Family”.

He played Mike “Meathead” Stivic, the liberal son-in-law of the lead character. The role earned him two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor.

However, Reiner truly left his mark as a prolific director. His career behind the camera began with the 1984 cult classic “This is Spinal Tap”. In this mockumentary, he played fictional filmmaker Marty DiBergi.

“That was the trick – to make fun of it and at the same time, honor it,” Reiner said in a recent interview.

His directorial portfolio includes nearly two dozen films. Many are considered classics:

• “Stand by Me” (1986): A coming-of-age drama about four boys searching for a missing body.
• “The Princess Bride” (1987): A beloved fairy-tale adventure.
• “When Harry Met Sally…” (1989): A quintessential romantic comedy famous for the line, “I’ll have what she’s having.”
• “Misery” (1990): A psychological thriller based on Stephen King’s novel.
• “A Few Good Men” (1992): A military courtroom drama.

Political Activism and Personal Life

Reiner was the son of comedy legend Carl Reiner. Beyond Hollywood, Rob Reiner was a staunch advocate for progressive causes.

He created campaign ads for Democratic candidates. He also campaigned against bans on same-sex marriage.

His wife, Michele Reiner, was a photographer. Her work included the cover image for Donald Trump’s book “Trump: The Art of the Deal”.

Following the news, Donald Trump commented on social media. He attributed the deaths to “anger he caused others” through his political stance.

Reiner was previously married to Penny Marshall, the star of “Laverne & Shirley”. He had three children with Michele Singer, including the suspect now in custody.
