Afrobeats star Asake is heartbroken following reports of a fatal stampede during his performance in Kenya. Specifically, the incident occurred on December 20, 2025, at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi. The singer expressed his deep grief on Monday after authorities confirmed the loss of life.

According to the Kenya National Police Service, a 20-year-old woman named Karen Lojore died near a stadium entry point. Police officials stated that a brief stampede broke out as fans attempted to enter the venue. Although the situation eventually stabilized and the concert continued, the crush proved fatal for the young fan.

Asake Calls for Accountability

On Monday, Asake shared an emotional message via his Instagram Story. He described the event as devastating and offered his condolences to the victim’s family. Furthermore, the artist insisted that those responsible for the safety lapse must be held answerable.

“I am devastated by the tragic incident that took place… My heart goes out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Karen Lojore,” Asake wrote.

In his statement, the singer committed to the following:

  • Support: He pledged to do his best to assist the grieving family during this difficult time.
  • Investigation: He expressed a desire to fully understand the circumstances of the incident.
  • Accountability: He emphasized that safety at music festivals must be a priority.

A Recurring Safety Concern

Unfortunately, this tragedy marks the second time a crowd surge has occurred at an Asake concert. In December 2022, two people lost their lives following a similar crush at the Brixton Academy in London.

Consequently, this latest event in Nairobi has reignited discussions regarding crowd management for high-capacity shows.

The Nairobi concert was a major stop on Asake’s Africa tour and featured British-Nigerian singer Gabzy as a co-headliner. While the tour was meant to celebrate African music, it has now been overshadowed by this tragic loss of life.
