Manchester City have secured their first major reinforcement of the winter transfer window, officially confirming the signing of Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth. The 26-year-old Ghanaian international has committed his future to the Etihad Stadium with a long-term contract extending until June 2031.

The deal, finalized on Friday, January 9, 2026, follows a spectacular run of form for the winger. While early reports hinted at a £65 million release clause, the final agreement is understood to be worth a guaranteed £62.5 million, with an additional £1.5 million potentially due in performance-related bonuses. City negotiated a payment structure that allows the fee to be settled over the next 24 months.

A Meteoric Rise to the Top

Semenyo arrives in Manchester as one of the most clinical forwards in the Premier League this season. Capable of operating across the entire frontline, he has already notched 10 goals and 3 assists in the current campaign. His arrival is seen as a strategic move by Pep Guardiola to add variety and explosive pace to an attack that has occasionally struggled with inspiration in recent months.

Semenyo’s Professional Journey:

  • Bristol City: Where he developed through the academy.
  • Loan Spells: Gained vital experience at Bath City, Newport County, and Sunderland.
  • Bournemouth: Established himself as a top-tier Premier League threat.
  • International: A key figure for the Ghana national team with 32 appearances.

“World-Class Standards”

Upon signing, Semenyo expressed his admiration for the club’s trajectory over the last decade. “I have watched City under Pep Guardiola, and they have been the dominant force,” he stated. “They have set the highest standards with world-class players and facilities. To be here at this stage of my career is perfect.”

The winger, who recently celebrated his 26th birthday with a dramatic winner against Tottenham in his final game for the Cherries, believes his peak years are still ahead of him. He is eligible to make his debut as early as Saturday in the FA Cup clash against Exeter.
