Bobi Wine injured in scuffle with police in Uganda

Uganda’s opposition leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, was urgently taken to Nsambya Hospital after being injured during a confrontation with security officers in the Kampala metropolitan area.

Television footage captured the moment a bleeding Bobi Wine was wheeled into the hospital, showing a wound on his lower left leg. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening in Bulindo, Kira Municipality, located in Wakiso District.

Eyewitnesses suggested that the clash began when police tried to disperse a growing crowd as Bobi Wine, who is a former presidential candidate, was returning from a visit to his National Unity Platform (NUP) party lawyer, George Musisi.

Earlier, the NUP had claimed that security forces had “made an attempt on the life of Bobi Wine,” though this allegation could not be independently confirmed or verified by the time of reporting.

According to a post on Bobi Wine’s X account, “Police and military surrounded our vehicles and started firing live bullets, teargas canisters, and other projectiles. In the process, our president Bobi Wine, who was clearly targeted, was shot in the leg. He is currently being attended to by a team of medical doctors.”
