AFCON winners

YES! Host nation Ivory Coast has claimed the title of Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions after a thrilling 2-1 victory over Nigeria.

This marks their third AFCON trophy, and celebrations are in full swing in Abidjan as the city prepares to party.

Beyond lifting the trophy, Ivory Coast has demonstrated a powerful lesson in resilience. After finishing third in Group A, they advanced to the knockout stage as one of the best runners-up—and what followed was truly remarkable.

Nigeria took the lead in the 38th minute with a goal from captain and center-back William Troost-Ekong, momentarily silencing the 60,000 fans at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium.

However, the home team refused to back down. In the 62nd minute, Franck Kessie equalized with a powerful header, reigniting hope among the Ivorian supporters.

Just 21 minutes later, Sébastien Haller extended the lead by scoring from close range, bringing the coveted AFCON title within reach.
