Afrikrea, the Côte d’Ivoire-based e-commerce platform specializing in African art, fashion, and crafts, announced today that it has raised $6.2 million in new funding. This Series A investment round aims to help African artisans reach international buyers more effectively, expanding Afrikrea’s platform that connects artisans and sellers from across Africa with global markets.

Founded in 2016 by Moulaye Tabouré and Kadry Diallo, Afrikrea has established itself as a prominent player in Africa’s e-commerce space. The platform allows artisans to sell products such as clothing, jewelry, art, and home decor. With this latest funding, Afrikrea intends to accelerate its efforts to broaden the market reach of African creators and support the growing demand for African-made products worldwide.

The $6.2 million funding round was led by Investisseurs & Partenaires, an impact investment firm focused on African entrepreneurs, with participation from major players such as French investment fund Orange Ventures and other private investors. Afrikrea plans to use the funds to enhance its logistics and payment infrastructure, making it easier for artisans to manage cross-border sales and for customers to receive timely and affordable delivery.

With over 7 million products listed and buyers from 170 countries, Afrikrea’s reach is vast. The platform has processed transactions worth more than $15 million, a reflection of the increasing global interest in African-made products. Afrikrea’s mission is to break down barriers to market access for African artisans, helping them reach new buyers and gain financial independence.

In addition to the online marketplace, Afrikrea has developed a payment solution, Anka, which simplifies cross-border transactions for sellers across Africa. Through Anka, artisans can handle international shipping, secure payment processing, and manage customer communications all within one integrated platform.

By streamlining these logistical elements, Afrikrea aims to reduce the costs and complexity associated with exporting African products, thereby boosting sales and fostering a thriving network of artisans. According to Afrikrea’s founders, Anka will enable African sellers to tap into emerging markets and attract more international buyers by providing a reliable and user-friendly sales experience.

This funding will allow Afrikrea to scale its operations and continue enhancing its services for African artisans. Future goals include further developing Anka’s functionalities and expanding partnerships with logistics providers to enhance the platform’s shipping network. Afrikrea’s growth aligns with a rising trend of global consumers seeking unique, handmade products that reflect diverse cultural heritages.

Afrikrea’s $6.2 million funding milestone represents a significant step in supporting Africa’s creative industry and making African artisan products more accessible on a global scale.
