The Nigerian women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, are set to discover their group stage opponents today as the draw for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) takes place in Rabat, Morocco. The tournament, scheduled to run from November 30 to December 22, will feature 12 teams vying for the continental title.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has outlined the draw procedure, with teams seeded based on their performances in the 2022 edition and current FIFA rankings. Defending champions South Africa, hosts Morocco, and Nigeria are the top-seeded teams, each leading one of the three groups.

The Super Falcons, nine-time WAFCON champions, are regarded as one of the favorites to lift the trophy. However, they face stiff competition from other strong contenders, including South Africa, who defeated them in the 2022 WAFCON semifinals, and Morocco, who reached the finals in the same tournament.

Nigerian head coach Randy Waldrum has expressed confidence in the team’s preparedness, citing the depth and quality of players at his disposal. “We respect every opponent, but our focus is on being at our best in every game,” Waldrum stated in a recent press conference.

The tournament will also serve as a qualifier for the 2025 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the top four teams earning automatic berths. This added
