Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s 82nd birthday has been marked by accolades from prominent leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Northern Senators, who commended his enduring commitment to Nigeria’s unity and development. The celebration highlighted Buhari’s legacy as a unifying force in the nation’s history.

President Tinubu described Buhari as a statesman whose life and leadership reflect unparalleled service to Nigeria. In a statement, Tinubu said, “On this special day, I celebrate you for your unrelenting contributions to our dear nation. You have inspired millions with your leadership, humility, and unwavering dedication.”

The Northern Senators Forum lauded Buhari for his dedication to national integration. Senator Abdul Ahmad Ningi, on behalf of the group, emphasized Buhari’s ability to bridge ethnic and religious divides during his tenure, describing him as a leader committed to fostering peace and inclusivity.

Former Inspector-General of Police and Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Solomon Arase, referred to Buhari as a “beacon of hope” for Nigeria’s unity. Arase credited Buhari with setting a foundation for policies aimed at strengthening national security and cohesion.

Amidst the praise, Garba Shehu, a former Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Buhari, used the occasion to address former President Olusegun Obasanjo. In a tribute, Shehu drew contrasts between Buhari’s humility and the perceived authoritarian tendencies of Obasanjo. While celebrating Buhari’s character, Shehu accused Obasanjo of seeking global validation, suggesting Buhari’s legacy stands taller.

The celebrations were also accompanied by commentary on Buhari’s leadership style and dedication to national service. Leaders and organizations across the country acknowledged his efforts in addressing challenges in security, economic diversification, and anti-corruption.

As Buhari enters a new year, Nigerians continue to reflect on his years of public service. The common theme in the tributes underscores his role in preserving the unity and stability of the country, even in the face of adversity.
