The State Security Service (SSS) has issued a strong warning to Africa Independent Television (AIT) and Channels Television, threatening legal action over their reports on the alleged invasion of the Lagos State House of Assembly by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS). The agency insists that the media outlets misrepresented facts and spread false information, prompting a swift response.

Tensions erupted following reports suggesting that DSS operatives had forcefully entered the Assembly complex, allegedly on the orders of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. The incident occurred amid a deepening crisis within the legislative arm, which has seen growing internal divisions. However, the SSS has denied any involvement in a forceful takeover of the complex, maintaining that their personnel were only present to ensure order and security.

According to sources, part of the controversy stems from the discovery of 47 pump-action rifles in the office of Obasa’s Chief Security Officer (CSO). Security officials are reportedly investigating how the weapons got there and whether they were linked to the political tensions in the Assembly. While no formal charges have been filed, the revelation has added to the already intense atmosphere surrounding the state legislature.

As the crisis unfolds, stakeholders are looking to President Bola Tinubu for intervention to restore stability. Reports indicate that calm has returned to the Assembly, but uncertainty remains over the next course of action. Lawmakers and political observers are closely monitoring developments, with expectations that the presidency may step in to mediate the ongoing dispute.

Despite the DSS’s firm denial of storming the Assembly complex, the media reports have continued to generate public discourse. The agency has now vowed to take legal action against any news platform that it believes is spreading misinformation. It has called on journalists to verify facts before publication to avoid unnecessary panic and misunderstanding.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Assembly crisis remains unresolved, with concerns over how it will impact governance in the state. The security situation within the Assembly complex is under scrutiny, and many are waiting to see how the matter will be handled at both the state and federal levels.
