A shocking incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja has gone viral, showing a ValueJet plane nearly striking Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, known as K1 De Ultimate, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended two pilots for violating safety protocols, prompting a swift response from ValueJet. The incident has raised serious concerns about aviation safety in Nigeria.

A 23-second video circulating online captures the moment when the ValueJet CRJ-900ER (registration 5N-BXS) began moving from its bay without clearance, coming dangerously close to K1 De Ultimate.

Reports suggest the incident followed K1 accidentally spilling alcohol on an airline staff member.

Quick reflexes allowed him to duck and avoid the plane’s wing, preventing a potential tragedy.

The video shows ground crew nearby, highlighting the risk caused by the pilots’ actions.

NCAA Takes Action

The NCAA acted decisively, suspending the licenses of the pilot, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, and co-pilot, First Officer Ivan Oloba, effective immediately.

In a statement, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs, Michael Achimugu, described the pilots’ actions as “reckless.”

He noted they started departure procedures without mandatory air traffic control clearance, endangering ground personnel and violating national and international safety standards.

The suspensions will remain in place pending a thorough investigation.

ValueJet’s Official Response

On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, ValueJet issued a press statement addressing the incident.

“We acknowledge the seriousness of this event and are fully cooperating with the NCAA’s ongoing investigation,” the airline stated.

It confirmed that the involved crew members were immediately removed from active duty pending an internal review.

ValueJet emphasized its commitment to safety, stating, “Safety is our top priority, and we adhere strictly to regulatory and international standards.”

The airline also praised the NCAA’s prompt response, pledging to support efforts to uphold Nigeria’s aviation integrity.

“We are committed to accountability and continuous improvement in our operations,” the statement added. ValueJet’s cooperation with the NCAA aims to ensure such incidents are not repeated, reinforcing trust in the airline’s operations.

Public Concern and Safety Implications

The viral video has sparked widespread discussion online, with many expressing relief that K1 escaped unharmed.

As the NCAA’s investigation continues, the aviation industry faces increased scrutiny.

The outcome could lead to tighter regulations and enhanced training for flight crews.

For K1 De Ultimate and the public, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safety at busy airports like Abuja’s.
