The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari departed London, United Kingdom, this morning, Tuesday, July 15, 2025, aboard a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft before 8:00 AM, heading to Daura, Katsina State, for a state burial.
The departure, initially set for Monday, was delayed to Tuesday.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and other senior officials are accompanying the late president’s body.
Arrival and Ceremony Details
Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at 4:30 PM in a London hospital after a prolonged undisclosed illness at age 82, will be received by President Bola Tinubu in Katsina around noon.
The body will then be transported to Daura for funeral prayers and interment at his residence.
Information Minister Mohammed Idris confirmed Tinubu’s personal involvement in receiving the remains.
National Observances
The federal government declared Tuesday a public holiday to honor Buhari, complementing the earlier seven-day national mourning period ordered by Tinubu.
A special Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting was postponed due to its conflict with the burial schedule.
