ECOWAS Mourns Buhari

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Republic of Türkiye have expressed profound sorrow over the death of Nigeria’s former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London.

ECOWAS President Dr. Omar Touray, on behalf of all ECOWAS institutions, issued a condolence message on Monday, extending sympathies to the bereaved family, President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Government, and the Nigerian people.

ECOWAS Tribute

Touray described Buhari as a distinguished statesman whose invaluable contributions significantly advanced democracy and regional integration across West Africa and the African continent.

“It is with deep sorrow that the world learnt of the passing of His Excellency, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari,” he stated.

ECOWAS salutes his memory, praying for the repose of his soul, and stands in solidarity with Nigeria during this time of mourning.

Signed by spokesman Mr. Harkan Tok, it offered condolences to the Nigerian government and people, adding, “May the Almighty Allah bless his soul.”
