Rivers State Begins Payment of ₦85,000 Minimum Wage to Workers

In a move that has been met with widespread celebration, the Rivers State government has officially begun the payment of an ₦85,000 minimum wage to its civil servants. Governor Siminalayi Fubara made the announcement, marking a significant step toward improving the welfare of workers in the state. The payment is part of Fubara’s commitment to uplifting the standard of living for public servants in Rivers.

The new wage structure, which is above the federal minimum wage, is aimed at reducing the financial strain on workers and enhancing their productivity. The governor emphasized that the decision to increase the minimum wage was part of his administration’s broader efforts to foster economic growth and improve public service delivery in the state.

The move has been hailed by various workers’ unions, with members expressing gratitude for the governor’s decision. Public servants, especially those in the lower rungs of the civil service, have celebrated the wage increase, viewing it as a recognition of their hard work and dedication.
