CRASH

On Tuesday, December 30, 2025, the boxing community is mourning the loss of two prominent trainers after a tragic vehicle collision. Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, both vital members of Anthony Joshua’s inner circle, were killed in a high-speed accident on Monday.

Sina Ghami was the co-founder of Evolve Gym and served as Joshua’s dedicated strength and conditioning coach. Following the news, Evolve locations in Colindale and South Ruislip closed their doors as a mark of respect for their fallen leader.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The accident occurred around 11:00 AM local time on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Anthony Joshua, who holds dual British and Nigerian citizenship, was traveling with his team when the vehicle lost control.

According to witness reports and official findings from Nigerian authorities, the car was traveling at high speeds. While the driver was attempting to overtake another vehicle, a tire burst. This caused the driver to lose control and collide with a stationary truck parked on the side of the road.

Casualties and Medical Update

The crash tragically claimed the lives of two men who were both professional trainers and close personal friends of the Olympic gold medalist. While Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele died at the scene, Anthony Joshua survived the impact with minor injuries.

Joshua was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for thorough medical checks. His promoter, Matchroom Boxing, confirmed that he remains under medical observation to ensure a full recovery. Fortunately, his physical injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Community and Official Reaction

President Bola Tinubu has reached out to Joshua and his family to offer his condolences and support. Meanwhile, local gyms in London have been flooded with tributes. Taped statements on the doors of Evolve Gym thanked the community for their strength during what staff described as a “rude shock.”

Authorities have now launched a full investigation into the specific circumstances surrounding the crash. The results of the probe will be made public once the investigation concludes. This will provide clarity on the mechanical or human factors involved in the tragedy.
