Paul Pogba Set for AS Monaco Move in 2025

June 16, 2025

French football star Paul Pogba is reportedly nearing a move to AS Monaco for the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season, marking his first stint in France’s top flight.

The 32-year-old midfielder, a free agent since terminating his Juventus contract in November 2024, is eager to revive his career after an 18-month doping ban ended in March 2025.

Recent reports indicate Monaco is in advanced talks, offering Pogba a two-year deal until 2027, with the player willing to accept a reduced salary to facilitate the transfer.

A Career of Highs and Lows

Once hailed as one of the world’s elite midfielders, Pogba’s 2018 World Cup triumph with France marked a career peak.

However, injuries and inconsistent form at Manchester United and Juventus dimmed his star.

Off the pitch, he faced personal turmoil, including an extortion plot involving his brother.

Despite these challenges, Monaco believes Pogba can rediscover his form, viewing his experience as a boost for their ambitions.

Monaco’s Ambitious Double Swoop

Monaco is also targeting FC Barcelona’s Ansu Fati, a 22-year-old forward whose early promise as a Lionel Messi successor was derailed by injuries.

The club’s pursuit of both players signals a bold strategy to strengthen their squad for the 2025/26 season.

Reports suggest Monaco is confident in securing both, with negotiations ongoing as the Ligue 1 summer transfer window, open until September 1, 2025, approaches its deadline.

Risk and Reward for Monaco

Signing Pogba is a gamble, given his recent struggles and time away from competitive football.

Earlier links to Olympique de Marseille fell through due to concerns over his recovery timeline and high salary demands, but Monaco’s offer has gained traction.

Fati, similarly, carries risk but offers high reward if he regains form.

Ligue 1’s Transfer Window Heats Up

With the transfer window closing soon, Monaco’s moves could reshape their squad and Ligue 1’s competitive landscape.

Pogba’s experience and Fati’s potential could elevate the club, but their success hinges on overcoming past setbacks.

As negotiations progress, the football world watches to see if this high-profile duo can spark a new era for Monaco.
