A tragic incident occurred in Calabar on Tuesday evening as Inspector Stephen Enang, a devoted Arsenal fan, slumped and died while watching the high-profile Arsenal vs Real Madrid football match.
The deceased, an indigene of Ekori in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, was an officer with the Akim Police Division, located along IBB Way in Calabar.
The incident took place at a viewing center on Abang-Asang Street, where Inspector Enang had gathered with friends to watch the match.
Inspector Slumps During Arsenal’s Dominating 3–0 Victory Over Real Madrid
Eyewitnesses report that Inspector Stephen Enang appeared perfectly healthy and cheerful prior to the match. He was visibly excited as Arsenal scored three goals against Real Madrid during the thrilling encounter.
“He was hale and hearty before the match. He cheered loudly with every goal Arsenal scored. But after the final whistle, he didn’t get up like the rest of us. That’s when we realised something was wrong,” a friend of the deceased recounted.
When it became clear that he had lost consciousness, efforts were made to rush him to the Police Hospital in Akim, but unfortunately, he was declared dead despite all attempts to revive him.

Colleagues and friends described the late police officer as quiet, soft-spoken, and deeply passionate about football—especially Arsenal FC. The unexpected nature of his death has shocked the local police community and residents of Calabar.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain under review, but there is no evidence of any prior health conditions known to his close associates.
