Brainwave Africa Tech

Angela Kyerematen-Jimoh has built an impressive career in technology and business, becoming the first African woman to serve as executive director for IBM North, East, and West Africa. After a decade at IBM, she transitioned into entrepreneurship, launching Brainwave Africa Tech, a company she envisions as a leader in Africa’s digital transformation.

Her journey into the tech world was unexpected. Initially working in banking as head of Corporate Banking for GT Bank Ghana, she had no plans to switch to technology. However, when IBM came to Ghana searching for a marketing leader, she took the leap and joined the company as head of marketing for West Africa.

From IBM Leadership to Founding Brainwave Africa Tech

Kyerematen-Jimoh’s career progression at IBM was remarkable. After her role in marketing, she moved to Nairobi, Kenya, where she led strategy for Central, East, and West Africa, collaborating closely with IBM’s U.S. team. Her expertise and leadership skills earned her a historic appointment as the first female Country General Manager for IBM in Ghana.

Leading operations in 35 African countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Morocco, and Ghana, she played a key role in IBM’s regional success. However, after years of corporate leadership, she felt a calling for a new challenge. This led her to join Microsoft as the strategic partnership lead in its Africa Transformation Office, a role that further fueled her vision for her own company.

In January 2025, Kyerematen-Jimoh officially launched Brainwave Africa Tech. She describes the decision as spiritually inspired, saying, “The Holy Spirit was very clear—it was time for me to start my own company.”

Brainwave Africa Tech: Driving Digital Innovation in Africa

With a mission to become “the partner of choice for Africa’s digital transformation,” Brainwave Africa Tech is establishing key strategic partnerships with tech giants like IBM and Microsoft. The company recently secured a multimillion-dollar RFP in Ghana through its collaboration with Blue Dive, a Nigerian-based implementation partner.

Despite her transition to entrepreneurship, Kyerematen-Jimoh maintains strong ties with IBM and Microsoft, working alongside them to foster Africa’s technological evolution.

A Legacy of Mentorship and Empowerment

Beyond business, Kyerematen-Jimoh is deeply passionate about women’s empowerment and technology education. She credits her mother for encouraging her to explore tech, despite her initial reluctance.

She is a member of the Forbes Technology Council and an advocate for philanthropy and mentorship. As part of her commitment to the next generation, she has launched the AI Explorers Club, offering AI training for children aged 8 to 15 every Friday and Saturday.

Through Brainwave Africa Tech, Kyerematen-Jimoh is shaping Africa’s digital landscape while inspiring future generations to embrace technology and innovation.

Final Thoughts

Angela Kyerematen-Jimoh’s journey from corporate leadership to entrepreneurship highlights her resilience, vision, and commitment to Africa’s digital growth. As Brainwave Africa Tech continues to expand, her impact on the continent’s tech ecosystem will undoubtedly be profound.
