The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has reaffirmed the Nigerian military’s commitment to ending insecurity across the nation while emphasizing the need for troops to respect the rights of citizens during operations. His statements come amidst ongoing efforts to rid the country of banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities.

General Musa directed frontline troops to intensify operations by taking the fight to the hideouts of criminals. He urged them to be relentless in flushing out bandits and other elements threatening peace and security. Addressing the nation’s troops, he said the military’s strategy would focus on proactive and intelligence-driven operations to dismantle criminal networks.

The Nigerian Army has also spoken tough, assuring citizens of its resolve to eliminate all forms of insecurity. It expressed confidence in the military’s capacity to restore stability and called for public cooperation in sharing actionable intelligence.

In a related development, the military is considering partnerships with locally fabricated arms manufacturers to enhance its arsenal. This move is seen as a step toward reducing reliance on foreign suppliers and bolstering local industries. The initiative aligns with the government’s drive for self-reliance and sustainability in national defense.

While advocating an aggressive approach against criminal elements, the CDS underscored the importance of respecting citizens’ rights during military operations. He reminded troops that safeguarding human rights is integral to maintaining public trust and achieving long-term peace. General Musa advised troops to exercise professionalism and discipline in their engagements with civilians.

The military’s renewed commitment has been met with cautious optimism by Nigerians. Citizens have welcomed the pledge to intensify the fight against insecurity but remain concerned about the potential for human rights violations. Advocacy groups have urged the military to uphold its promise of professionalism and accountability in all operations.

As Nigeria grapples with security challenges, the military’s multifaceted approach — combining aggressive action against criminals, support for local arms manufacturing, and respect for human rights — offers hope for a more secure future. The success of these efforts will depend on the sustained cooperation between the armed forces, government, and citizens.
