Nigerian chef Hilda Baci achieved a new Guinness World Record on Friday, September 12, 2025. She prepared the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing 8,780 kilograms (19,356 lb 9 oz). The event took place in Victoria Island, Lagos, in partnership with Gino.

Guinness World Records Announcement

Guinness World Records confirmed the achievement on Monday, September 15, 2025. They shared the news on their official X account, stating,

“New record: Largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.”

Earlier, on Friday, they posted a supportive video, saying, “Best of luck to @hildabacicooks who’s attempting a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice today.”

Preparation and Challenges

Baci began the attempt on Friday, using a custom pot with a 22,619-liter capacity. She aimed to fill it to 80% with about 5,278 kilograms of raw basmati rice, equivalent to 264 bags.

She adjusted to 200 bags, yielding 4,000 kilograms of cooked rice, enough to feed 20,000 people. The pot and ingredients were weighed, as the crane and scale had a 20,000-kilogram limit, including the pot’s weight.

Carnival-Like Atmosphere

The event drew a huge crowd, including food lovers and celebrities. Nollywood actress Funke Akindele joined Baci to stir the tomato base and praised her resilience.

The First Lady of Ogun State, Bamidele Abiodun, also attended. Other stars present included Kaffy, Tomike Adeoye, Enioluwa, Peller, Veekee James, Femi Atere, Tacha, Papaya, Samuel Banks, Alex Unusual, Folagbade Banks, and Spyro. Music and dancing created a festive vibe.

Baci’s Rising Fame

Baci, known for her record-breaking cook-a-thon, continues to elevate Nigerian cuisine globally. This latest feat highlights her culinary skill and dedication. The massive jollof rice serving underscores Nigeria’s vibrant food culture.
