Hilda Baci, Nigeria’s celebrated chef and Guinness World Record holder, has declared that the enormous pot used in her historic jollof rice challenge will remain unsold and unauctioned.
Speaking at a vibrant press conference hosted by Gino Nigeria in Lagos on Saturday, Baci emphasized the pot’s profound significance.
“This isn’t just a pot—it’s a beacon of history, resilience, and creativity,” she shared with enthusiasm.
A Record-Breaking Feat
On September 19, 2025, Baci, in partnership with Gino Nigeria, set a new Guinness World Record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing an impressive 8,780 kilograms (19,356 lb 9 oz).
The event, held in Victoria Island, Lagos, transformed into a festive gathering, drawing food enthusiasts, celebrities, and supporters.
Guinness World Records officially recognized the achievement, announcing on X:
“Largest serving of Nigerian jollof rice – 8,780 kg, achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Lagos, Nigeria.”
The Pot’s Lasting Legacy
The custom-built pot, with a staggering capacity of 22,619 liters, was central to the record-breaking effort.
Baci revealed that her team used 200 bags of rice, filling the pot to 80% capacity, as the crane and scale could only handle up to 20,000 kilograms, including the pot’s weight.
Despite numerous offers to purchase or auction the pot, Baci is resolute about preserving it.
“This pot embodies innovation and faith. It’s a piece of history we want future generations to see,” she said.
Plans for Public Display
Rather than selling the iconic cookware, Baci plans to restore it to its original state for public viewing.
“We’re ensuring it shines in its full glory, perhaps in a museum or a public space where people can admire it,” she explained.
The chef envisions the pot inspiring Nigerians and food lovers worldwide for decades to come, serving as a tangible reminder of what determination and creativity can achieve.
A Star-Studded Celebration
The record-setting event was a spectacle, attended by prominent figures like Nollywood’s Funke Akindele, Ogun State First Lady Bamidele Abiodun, dancer Kaffy.
Influencers such as Veekee James, Tacha, Papaya, Enioluwa, Alex Unusual, and Spyro.
Their presence underscored the cultural significance of Baci’s achievement, which built on her 2023 cook-a-thon fame, where she cooked for over 100 hours, elevating Nigerian cuisine globally.
Continuing a Culinary Legacy
Baci’s latest triumph reinforces her role as a global ambassador for Nigerian food culture.
The jollof rice record not only celebrates culinary excellence but also unites communities through a shared love for food.
By preserving the pot, Baci ensures that this milestone will continue to inspire and educate, cementing Nigeria’s place in the global culinary spotlight.
