India Independence Day Golf: Ojo, Obieze Claim Top Prizes

The second India Independence Day Golf Tournament, held at the Ikeja Golf Club, showcased golfing talent and cultural unity as Babatunde Ojo and Lynda Obieze topped the men’s and ladies’ divisions.

The event, launched in 2023, has quickly become a highlight for golf lovers and the Indian community in Nigeria, blending sport with celebration of India’s independence.

Ojo Wins Men’s Category

In a tightly contested men’s division, Babatunde Ojo secured victory with 33 points, edging out Goke Akinboro on a countback after both posted the same score.

  • 2nd Place: Goke Akinboro – 33 points (countback)
  • 3rd Place: Mojeed Aberuaga – 31 points

Obieze Dominates Ladies’ Division

In the women’s competition, Lynda Obieze emerged champion with 34 points, ahead of:

  • 2nd Place: Queen Ebosetale Okhuleigbe – 32 points
  • 3rd Place: Afolashade Opuwunmi – 30 points

Special Awards and Highlights

The tournament also recognized outstanding performances with additional prizes:

  • Longest Drive (Men’s): Arun Sharma
  • Longest Drive (Women’s): Queen Ebosetale Okhuleigbe
  • Nearest to the Pin (Men’s): Mike Laleye
  • Nearest to the Pin (Women’s): Chichi Alamu

Strengthening India–Nigeria Relations

At the closing dinner, Ikeja Golf Club Captain, Rasheed Adebisi, praised the Indian community for hosting the event and underscored the enduring ties between India and Nigeria.

“India is 79 years old. We will continue to support their community because the relationship between India and Nigeria has come a long way,” Adebisi said.

The tournament not only celebrated sporting excellence but also reinforced friendship and cultural exchange between both nations.
