The Court of Appeal has reversed an earlier judgment that stopped the allocation of federal funds to Rivers State. This ruling is a major victory for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, ensuring that the state’s financial operations continue unhindered.

The appellate court overruled a prior Federal High Court judgment that had directed the suspension of federal allocations to the state. The court described the earlier decision as lacking merit and affirmed Governor Fubara’s legal and constitutional mandate to oversee the state’s financial resources.

The restored allocations are expected to bolster the state’s ability to implement ongoing developmental projects. Governor Fubara’s administration had expressed concerns over the suspension’s impact on critical sectors, including healthcare, education, and infrastructure. With this ruling, Rivers State can now proceed with its budgetary plans without financial disruptions.

Governor Fubara welcomed the judgment, describing it as a triumph of justice and a validation of his administration’s commitment to the rule of law. Political analysts see the ruling as a boost to his leadership and a stabilizing factor for the state’s governance.

The decision underscores the independence of the judiciary in resolving disputes involving state and federal institutions. It also reinforces the principle that federal allocations are constitutional rights of states, regardless of political or administrative disagreements.

As the state resumes normal financial operations, attention will now shift to how the Fubara administration leverages these resources to address the pressing needs of Rivers residents.
